MCMORAN SAYS IT IS CONSIDERING SALE OF SULFUR ASSETS

The McMoRan Exploration Company, an offshore oil and natural gas exploration company, said yesterday that it was discussing a sale of its sulfur transportation and marketing assets, which it values at $66 million. The assets include two tankers, two barges, more than 500 rail cars and five terminals in Louisiana, Florida and Texas. McMoRan Exploration, based in New Orleans, did not disclose the potential buyers or indicate if talks were under way. The company said it planned to use proceeds from the sale to reduce debt and to cover the costs of stopping sulfur production operations at its Main Pass site, about 30 miles off the coast of Louisiana. Shares of McMoRan Exploration fell $1.125, to $13.3125, on the New York Stock Exchange.

CLEAR CHANNEL AGREES TO BUY 13 STATIONS FROM SUNBURST

Clear Channel Communications, whose purchase of AMFM Inc. will make it the No. 1 United States radio company, agreed yesterday to buy 13 radio stations in Texas and Missouri from Sunburst Media for $57 million in cash. Clear Channel, based in San Antonio, bought five stations in Springfield, Mo.; two stations in Bryan-College Station, Tex.; and six in Abilene, Tex. The closely held Sunburst is based in Dallas. Clear Channel shares, which have fallen 21 percent this year, rose $5, or 7 percent, yesterday, to $75.875.
