Douglas Elliman brokerage reports Manhattan's residential home sales reached their highest level since 2007, citing fence sitters’ anticipation of higher mortgage rates; volume of sales increased by 30 percent over 2012, while inventory was down by nearly 22 percent; bidding wars, popular with everyone except buyers, regained their toehold on negotiations, and sellers were able to reap 98 percent of their final asking price.
