LEAD: The Raytheon Company has been awarded a $3.5 billion contract to provide the Army with 4,491 Patriot antiaircraft missiles over five years, the Pentagon said. Raytheon, based in Lexington, Mass., ranked as the nation's seventh-biggest military contractor in 1986 with $4 billion in Defense Department business.

Texaco's Appeal

LEAD: Texaco Inc., as expected, asked a Texas appeals court in Houston to reverse its decision last month upholding most of an $11.1 billion judgment against the company, or order a new trial in its three-year-old legal dispute with the Pennzoil Company. DELTA-WESTERN MERGER BLOCKED

LEAD: A Federal appeals court in San Francisco blocked the $860 million merger of Delta Air Lines and Western Airlines last night, just hours before it was to go into effect. The court said the merger would be prohibited until an arbitrator settles a dispute over union representation.
