Robert Badinter (/ʁɔbɛʁ badɛ̃tɛʁ/), né le à Paris 16e et mort le à Paris 6e, est un homme politique, juriste et essayiste français.
Professeur de droit privé et avocat au barreau de Paris, il se fait connaître du grand public pour son combat contre la peine de mort dont il soutient l'abolition devant le Parlement en 1981 alors qu'il est garde des Sceaux et ministre de la Justice.
Membre du Parti socialiste et proche de François Mitterrand, il est ministre de la Justice de 1981 à 1986 puis président du Conseil constitutionnel de 1986 à 1995, sous la présidence de ce dernier. Il est ensuite sénateur des Hauts-de-Seine de 1995 à 2011.
Tout au long de son engagement politique, Robert Badinter prend position pour la réinsertion des détenus, pour une série d'évolutions du Code pénal ainsi que pour la lutte contre l'antisémitisme et l'homophobie. Il est également l'instigateur, en 1985, d'une loi portant son nom sur l'indemnisation des victimes des accidents de la route.
